Overview of Huye District
Huye District is one of the 30 districts of Rwanda and one of the 8 districts that make up the Southern Province (Southern Province). The district shares borders with several neighboring districts:
- Nyanza District to the north,
- Nyaruguru District to the south,
- Nyamagabe District to the west, and
- Gisagara District to the east.
Administratively, Huye District is composed of:
- 14 sectors,.
- 77 cells.
- 508 villages.
The district covers a total area of 581.5 km² and has a population of 381,900 inhabitants, according to the 2022 National Population and Housing Census. This corresponds to a population density of approximately 657 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Urban Development Role
The town of Huye serves as the administrative and urban center of the district. It is also recognized as one of the secondary cities.
